Artist Talk and Community Potluck with Avery Mags Duff

  • Curated Storefront - Outside the Box 110 North Main Street Akron, OH, 44308 United States (map)

Curated Storefront invites you to Outside the Box for an evening of food, community, and art with artist Avery Mags Duff, whose mural "Dreaming after the Demolition" is currently on view.

Avery makes work that deepens their relationship with plants and their own body, looking beyond the limitations of the human figure to explore alternatives in identity, expression, and gender. As an urban farmer, they see plants as powerful and increasingly rare keepers of knowledge, history, and abundance in a chaotic world, and cooking and fermenting as a natural extension of that practice.

The artist talk takes place in front of Avery's mural, where they'll discuss the importance of place and how it informs their work, followed by a Q&A. In that spirit of gathering, we're hosting a community potluck. Feel free to bring a dish to share, though it's by no means required. We'll have plenty to go around, plus light refreshments for all. The potluck runs throughout the evening, but we encourage you to get a plate before the artist talk begins.

Avery grew up in Akron and has been making art their whole life. They're a graduate of the University of Akron with a BFA in Painting and a BA in Spanish, and are currently pursuing an MFA at Kent State University. Outside the studio, they're active in urban farming, fermentation, foraging, and experimental music.
