Curated Storefront Studios – Artist Residency

This residency is designed for artists who would benefit from time, space, critique, and proximity to Curated Storefront’s work in the public realm.

Curated Storefront's Studio Program is accepting applications for its inaugural artist residency, which will provide free studio space to selected artists for the development of ambitious work. Program dates are September 1, 2026 through May 15, 2027. Residents will work alongside Curated Storefront’s studio artists in a shared environment shaped by dialogue, experimentation, and proximity to public-facing contemporary art. During the 9-month program, residents will engage in critique sessions, meet with visiting artists, and receive administrative and peer support. The program will culminate in a group exhibition, where resident artists will share their work, ideas, and process with the public. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Artists working in any medium may apply, including painting, sculpture, installation, fiber, photography, socially engaged practice, and hybrid forms. This opportunity may be a strong fit for artists who need room to test ideas, materials, scale, installation, or process; who value critique and peer exchange; and who are curious about how their work might live in conversation with audiences, place, and the public realm.

Preference is given to visual artists who would benefit from having a physical space to work. Artists must not be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the residency period. If you are currently enrolled, but will graduate by the time of the residency, you are welcome to apply.

Applicants do not need to identify as public artists or propose a public artwork. The residency is intended to support studio development while offering exposure to Curated Storefront’s public-facing curatorial work.

FEES:

There are no fees associated with the residency program. Artists are responsible for their own housing, travel, and materials.

STUDIO SPACE:

Artists are provided a spacious studio in a communal environment. Studios have high ceilings, windows, and freight elevator access. Wifi is included. Kiln access available. Communal areas include a kitchenette, slop sink, restrooms, and work space with a printer. Studio access is 24 hours, 7 days a week. Studios are located at Bounce Innovation Hub, in downtown Akron.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Residents are expected to dedicate regular hours to their studio practice and manage their time to be productive within this temporary, 9-month period.

  • Residents should demonstrate an enthusiasm to participate in programming, such as studio gatherings, critique sessions, meetings with visiting artists, the culminating group exhibition, and artist talk.

    Residents agree to the established policies and procedures for occupancy in Curated Storefront’s shared studio space.
